Emergency Response Plans and Procedures

Public Safety is prepared with plans and response guidelines in case of emergency, including a Personal Emergency Preparedness Plan and other Emergency Response Guidelines for Faculty, Staff, and Students.

Terrorism & Natural Disasters: Preparing for the Unexpected

All Americans, including those traveling in the transportation systems, should continue to be vigilant, take notice of their surroundings, and report suspicions items or activities to local authorities immediately.

 

Power Outage

All university exits include emergency lighting with backup battery power that will turn on in case of a power outage. In this instance, remain calm. Immediately notify Maintenance at (208) 282-2694 during regular working hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), or after hours or in case of emergency, Public Safety at (208) 282-2515.

 

Fire Safety and Preparedness

Fires can start and spread quickly. It is important to know in advance what to do in case of a fire.

Earthquake!

In the event of an earthquake, there are specific safety measures to take whether you are indoors or outdoors. Stay calm. Your greatest threat is from falling objects, electrical power lines and gas lines. Get out from under it, away from it, or go around it.

Weather Emergencies/Flooding

During and immediately following a weather emergency, such as a severe storm or flooding, it is important you know what precautions and actions must be taken to ensure your safety and the safety of others.

Medical Emergency

AEDs and other precautions are available to you on campus. In case of any medical emergency, call 911 or Public Safety at (208) 282-2515.

Hazardous Materials Incident

Any spillage of a hazardous chemical or radioactive material should be reported immediately to Public Safety at (208) 282-2515 and the Technical Safety Office at (208) 282-2310 or (208)282-2311, and to the Pocatello Fire Department (911 if serious, (208) 234-6100 if non-serious).

Suspicious Letter or Package

Be aware of what to signs to look for in a suspicious letter or package, and know what precautions to take.

Suspicious Activity

If you see something, say something. Always report unusual or suspicious activity on campus to Public Safety at (208) 282-2515.

Bomb Threat

It is important to be prepared before situations arise so you know what to do and how to react. Knowing what to do in the case of an explosion, or if you were to receive a threat via phone is important for safety.</p

Active Shooter on Campus

Though rare, active shooter events are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Individuals who survive an active shooter event generally have a "survival mentality."
